Hello world! Halvsie.com v02

Please log in or register to do it.

Between 2004 and 2011 halvsie.com hosted a forum to discuss issues and other things about being half Japanese. We began as a small group of people in Portland, Oregon, starting with a meeting at the Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center in Old Town Portland.

Over the course of 6 or 7 years the website collected about 2,000 registrants, and those members generated about 200,000 posts. We began before the rise of Facebook, and so when Facebook started to take over the world, the activity on the original website declined quickly. The first version closed for good in 2011.

As 2020 turned into a long period of lockdown, particularly in California, we here at HQ found ourselves with a lot of extra time to point toward new projects. Inspired by comments and messages from some of the most active members of the original forum started to write to us and ask about what we’ve been up to lately. This inspired us to rethink the halvsie.com website, and try some new things.

So, that’s what you see here: some experiments and tests of new software to see if there was an appetite on the web for a new build-out of the site, and learn what people would be interested in using these days.

There are a few specific tests going on, a wiki, a social network, and the homepage which is a collection of hāfu resources—videos, music, articles, etc.

If you would like to check out the wiki, you can see it here: https://wiki.halvsie.com/.

If you would like to check out the social network (registration required), you can do so here: https://social.halvsie.com/.

As always, please comment and let us know what you think, what you like, and what you think is dumb.
